Wednesday at Metro

This past week when I went to visit the neighborhoods and families at one of the metro communities, as soon as the kids saw me, they ran out of their homes yelling, "Karen! Karen!"  Because I haven't been that consistent working with this neighborhood, I was shocked by their response- but it's so cool for me to know that when I do get to go to their neighborhoods and homes I am making a difference.  I saw with a group of about 10 kids and hung out with them- talked with them about their school work, about what's going on with their friends, and held their puppies that were just a few days old.

When it was time to go, we all got into the van and tried to pull out, unaware that we had a flat tire!  If you look in the picture below you'll see a red car.  Well that red car is sticking out of a mechanic's shop!  The family that lives there turned their garage into a shop, and we had just the tools (and men) we needed to fix the tire!  In about 10 minutes the tire was fixed and we were on our way back to the base.
