Coffee for kids?
This past weekend I went to Liberia, Costa Rica to visit with some friends that are from there. On Saturday I was helping my friend Isaac's family get ready for his sisters baby shower. She is having twin girls, and I got to help the family out for the party. After we played a few games, we went around to the different tables to serve coffee. While we were the first table, I offered coffee to a mom, who declined, but wanted some for her child. When I say child, I don't mean a 12 year old- we're talking 2 years old. This was repeated over and over- mom's not wanting coffee but their little babies drinking the coffee instead! I was shocked! Afterwords Isaac told me that it is simply the way it is done in Costa Rica. He then told me that he didn't think it was good to have such little kids drink coffee. I was in total agreement with him, until he told me, "Yeah it's better to let them be at least 6 before they start drinking coffee." I've lived in the Latin American culture for the past 4 years, but I always learn new things about how different my culture is from theirs!!
