She has grown up not knowing who her father is. She has been told that be died right after she was born, but she is unsure. Her mother, who is Haitian, died in the earthquake. She lives with a woman whom she calls aunt, but is of no relation to. She only eats when she is fed here at the church, and has never been to school.
I found out just a few days ago that she cannot read and write, and because she has no birth certificate, cannot enroll in any school. I have been working with her on letter-sound recognition, but it is a very frustrating thing for her.
Jessica's situation seems very hopeless. I know that Christ is hope to the hopeless, but it is hard to give that hope in a non-tangible way to Jessica. We have prayed with her, loved on her, and tried to give her what we can since we have been here. But her needs are so great, it makes me wonder what will become of her and her future.
I trust that God is good, faithful, and a father to the fatherless. Even though my eyes can't see how her situation will improve, I know His heart is for kids like Jessica, and I trust that He WILL make a way.
