Today the 5th and 6th grader soccer team played against our rival school. My students know that I'm the cheerleading coach and so they were asking me to teach them chants, and then started making up there own. One very sweet, innocent and quiet girl came to me excitedly to share the cheer she had made:
Poof, be gone
You play really bad
Wait come back
We're going to kick your a**
If you could have only seen how far my jaw dropped! Apparently she learned the word from her older brother, but had no idea it was a bad word. She was in tears to know that she had said a bad word. I believe her too, because what kid is going to tell their teacher a bad word?! We had a nice chat about the consequences of saying words when you don't know what they mean. Its a lesson I'm sure she won't forget.
